Journal Article | May 1998

This article is the original ACE Study, published in 1998, conducted by CDC and Kaiser Permanente that analyzed the relationship between childhood abuse and neglect and health and well-being later in life. It found a dose-response relationship between exposure to childhood emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, and household dysfunction during childhood and health risk behavior and disease in adulthood. Since publication, the study has come to be recognized as a landmark text in the field of trauma-informed care.
