The Sanctuary Model

The Sanctuary Model is a theory-based approach to changing and sustaining a trauma-informed organizational culture. Created by Sandy Bloom, MD, the Sanctuary Model offers an evolving, whole system organizational change process that is comprised of a number of components organized around “Four Pillars.” These four pillars are essential for what experience tells us is required to “create community”: shared knowledge, shared values, shared language, and a shared practice. Together they have to envision together what they want to achieve as a whole group.
